The truth about Blue Monday

It is total BS !

Blue Monday is the name given to a day in January said by a UK travel company, Sky Travel, to be the most depressing day of the year. The concept was first published in a 2005 press release from the company, which claimed to have calculated the date using an "equation".

Without falling into the conspiracy theory, I really feel it’s another marketing concept to make you feel worse than you may feel and ultimately sell you things you don’t need.

It is something I keep hammering you with but it's totally ok to feel crap, and have those days, weeks, or months where life is a bit too challenging. We don’t need Blue Monday to feel less guilty about having those emotions. We should never feel guilty about having them.

Any emotion is normal.

It is just information.

It is simply energy, in motion.

What bothers me even more about this shitty concept, is that because it became popular, you are going to see it everywhere.

This gonna make you think about it more than you would like because it will be everywhere around you, from the news, your notifications, the chat at the coffee machine with your colleagues to all the newsletters you will receive today (this one included sorry!) …

And we know the brain learns with repetition.

We also know a thought becomes a belief because of how many times it has been repeated (consciously or not).

To add to this, if you already believe in Blue Monday (even slightly), your reticular activating system (another brain's system not here to help you thrive!), will scan things around so you see more of it…

I know…the brain is not your friend today!

Now obviously I won’t ask you to hide for 24 hours because it’s not realistic and I like real-life strategies.

So instead, now that you know more about your brain, I challenge you today to pick a positive, cheerful, abundant thought every time you hear, read, or see something about Blue Monday.

You are in the driving seat so decide how you want to feel and pick a more powerful thought.

You can do this,

Love from London
Maud

PS: Another fun way would be to rename Blue Monday into Thrive Monday :)
